Post 13 crushes Ahoskie 24-4

The Ahoskie American Legion Post 101 baseball team decided early Friday night that it would be an ugly baseball game but Wilson Post 13 had no trouble lending an assist.

Wilson drubbed Ahoskie 24-4 in seven innings in Fleming Stadium to improve to 12-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Post 13 banged out 17 hits to add on to the mess Ahoskie Post 101 got itself into with eight errors.

"We swung the bats a little bit tonight but they definitely helped us out there early," Post 13 head coach Rusty Dail said. "Everybody did a good job tonight and I've got confidence in everybody. We've got kids on this team who could start for a lot of others."

Ahoskie jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Post 13 starter William Prince struggled to get into a groove. Prince never quite got comfortable, allowing 10 hits and four runs in four innings. However, he earned the win after departing with a four-run lead.

Post 13 took the lead in the bottom of the first when Jerome Richardson, David Gibbons and Jacob Davis delivered consecutive singles to begin the inning.

Chris Lamm drove in a run on a ground out and Davis scored when Brett Allen's grounder was booted for the first Ahoskie error.

Two more errors led to five more runs in the second and Post 13 exploded for a nine-run fourth, highlighted by Davis' towering three-run blast over the left field wall.

"They left the (starter) in there forever and then we hit the ball a lot tonight," Davis said.

The home run was his fifth of the season and third in two games.

"It was just first-pitch fastball right in the sweet spot," he said.

Zac Crumpler smashed a three-run double in the fifth to lead a seven-run surge and complete the 24-run outburst.

"It just flowed tonight really," Crumpler said. "We just connected on a bunch of hits and they helped with a bunch of errors as well."

Five players has at least three hits. Davis, Crumpler and Michael McLawhorn led the way with four RBIs.

Richardson scored three runs, Gibbons scored four times and Zach Moore added three hits and two runs.

Bentley Massey and Justin Nygard combined for three innings of one-hit relief with four strikeouts.

Wilson hits the road Monday to take on Pitt County Post 39.
