The Springfield baseball team cruised to a 16-0 win in three innings against Speight Thursday afternoon.

Nathan Boykin doubled for the only Cougar hit.

Speight (5-7) plays Monday at Darden.

The Speight softball team suffered its first defeat in 12 games Thursday afternoon, losing 10-4 to Springfield.

Speight returns to action Monday at Darden.

Speight beats Elm City 14-12 in nine innings

The Speight baseball team surged past Elm City, 14-12, in nine innings on Wednesday.

The Cougars (5-6) trailed by a run going into the seventh inning, but battled back to tie the game before scoring five runs in the ninth.

Nathan Boykin earned the win for Speight, pitching 5 1/3 innings. Defensively, Ryne Barnes made several stellar plays at shortstop for the Cougars.

Spencer Skinner led the Speight offense, going 3 for 5. Justin Ellis, Nich Webb, Casey Flora and Boykin also had two hits each.

The Cougars' next game will be Thursday when they host Springfield.
