Lucama

The Lucama Community Improvement Committee reported to the board of commissioners Monday night that they would like to see a gazebo placed in the community park.

"We would like to do whatever the town would like for us to do to assist in having one built at the park," said Shelly Moreira, spokesperson for the LCIC. "We think it would be a very nice addition to the park."

Moreira also said she had checked with N.C. Parks to see if a grant may be available to help with the cost. She said she would report back at a later date once she has more concrete information.

Moreira also said she felt the zoning ordinances for the town were outdated and in the best interest of the town need to be updated.

Melissa Woodard, zoning administrator for the town, said that all of the ordinances had been updated about a year ago.

Woodard also said that anyone wishing to look at any of the ordinances can visit Town Hall as she has one copy of the ordinance book and does not lend it out.

Spring Hope

Spring Hope's planning commission has recommended the Chamber of Commerce receive the special use permit that would allow the Farmers Market to remain in the central district business for the next year.

A public hearing will be held Monday at the next board of commissioners' meeting. The public is invited to speak on behalf or against the recommendation.

The Farmers Market came under fire when the market had only been open for one day. Some of the merchants in the area had issues with the parking problems in and around their businesses.

Overall, the market received a very positive response, said Sylvia Williams, president of Spring Hope's Chamber of Commerce.
