SMITHFIELD — Thomas Edward “Pete” Williams, 77, died Monday evening in the UNC Hospital.
He was born July 13, 1935 in Wilson County to the late Arthur Dewey and Eunice Bryant Williams.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Dorothy “Dot” Oakey Williams and Rebecca “Becky” Pittman Williams.
Pete attended Wake Forest University on a baseball scholarship and graduated with a degree in BBA in 1959. He started his career with First Citizens Bank in the Installment Loan Department in 1962. In 1981, he was named a regional manager, based in Smithfield. In 1992 he began serving as the corporate development officer for the Smithfield area. He retired from the bank in 2000, but he had continued to work as a consultant for the bank since that time. He was an active member of the Smithfield Jaycees, a past president of the Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce and a past president of the N.C. Agribusiness Council.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Surviving are his daughters, Debbie Williams Creech and husband, Michael, of Four Oaks, and Dawn Williams Lassiter of Davidson; sister, Maggie Lamm and husband, Billy, of Wilson; and four grandchildren, Grace Lassiter, Erin Lassiter, Will Creech and Michael Lassiter.
The family received friends Wednesday at the home.
