Robert H. “Bobby” Hackney

Robert Hodges “ Bobby” Hackney, 81, of Wilson died Friday. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Joshua Goocey and Dr. Jack Clifford. A private burial will be held at a later date. The family received friends Sunday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and at other times at 1004 Brookside Drive.
Mr. Hackney retired as chairman of the board of Hackney Brothers Inc. He was also a lifetime member and past board chair of First Christian Church, longtime trustee and board chair of Greenfield School and Wilson Community College, and served as board chair of Hope Station and Wilson Medical Center.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia “Tish” Hackney Scott and husband, David, of Wilson, Laura Hackney Rollins and husband, Gene, of Augusta, Ga.; two sons, Robert Hodges Hackney Jr. and wife, Shauna Holiman, of Old Greenwich, Conn., Herbert N. “Bert” Hackney of Vienna, Va.; five grandchildren, Charles Hackney Rollins and Tierney Elizabeth Rollins, both of Augusta, Ga., Laura Suzanne Scott and Margaret Anne Scott, both of Wilson and Charlotte Cameron Hackney of Vienna, Va.; two sisters, Elizabeth Acra Hackney Baskerville Williams of Tarboro and Sarah “Sally” Latham Hackney Lindley and husband, Gene, of Houston, Texas; one sister-in-law, Janet M. Hackney of Wilson; and one brother-in-law, Herbert J. Nelson and wife, Jan, of Lake Bluff, Ill.
He was the son of the late Thomas Jennings Hackney and Evelyn Jones Hackney. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Nelson Hackney; a daughter-in-law, Karen Elizabeth Hackney; two sisters, Helen Hodges Hackney Parker and Evelyn Jones Hackney Woodard Windham; and a brother, Thomas J. Hackney Jr.
