Beatrice Melton Edwards, 82, departed this life peacefully, bound for her heavenly home Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Wilson Medical Center. She was born in Wilson County April 12, 1930. Bea was the daughter of the late Elder Lafayette “Fate” and Annie B. Melton.
Bea attended Wilson County public schools and graduated from Frederick Douglas High School. She continued her education and received her certification as a licensed cosmetologist from Sally’s Beautician School.
Bea loved God’s word and her passion led her to attend Manna Bible College where she received several certifications in theology. She was a faithful, dedicated and prayful member of Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church, and a supporter of the Union Line Association for many years.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Sally Adams and Sarah Jordan; her brothers, Lafayette “Buddy” Melton, Guilford Melton and Ernest “Babe” Melton; and her aunt, Laura Mae Webb.
Left to cherish her wonderful memory are her loving husband of 57 years, Alexander Edwards of Wilson; her dedicated son, Anthony “A.J.” Edwards (Sylvia) of Wilson; a special daughter, Barbara Gilchrist of St. Albans, N.Y.; her faithful granddaughter, Candace Renita Edwards of Fayetteville; her grandson, David Applewhite of Wilson; four great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Willa Dean McCray (Robert) of Wilson; one brother-in-law, Cecil Edwards of Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held Sunday from 2 to 9:15 p.m. at Carrons Funeral Home, 325 E. Nash St. The family will receive friends there from 7 to 9 p.m. They will receive friends other times at 1401 Fairfax Ave., and will assemble there one hour prior to service in preparation for the funeral procession.
