Barbara Keech Luistro

NEWPORT, R.I. — Barbara St. Thomas Keech Luistro, 81, of 8 Congdon Ave., died Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Newport Hospital.

Born in Newport, R.I. on April 19, 1931, she was the daughter of the late George and Agnes Salley St. Thomas.

Barbara worked as a waitress at the International House of Pancakes for 30 years, retiring in 1995. She also had worked at Star Lunch, Tommy’s Diner, The Pier and the Officers Club. Barbara enjoyed traveling, the beach, watching movies, going on cruises and the color yellow. She spent many nights at the local parks watching softball games. Barbara loved the Boston Red Sox, especially when they won, and even when they lost. She also loved all animals.

She is survived by her children, Michael C. Keech and his wife, Michelle, of Lucama, Debbie L. Keech and her husband, John “Chief” Gomes, of Middletown, R.I., and Karen Keech Lavoie and her husband, Roger, of Fall River, Mass.; her granddaughter, Nicole Keech and her husband, Matthew Fisher; and her great-granddaughter, Abigail Fisher; her good friend and caretaker, Bob Howard; and her loving cat, Salley.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gaetano “Tom” Luistro and Leon “Jerry” Keech; twin sons, David A. Keech (2002) and Daniel T. Keech (2009); and a sister, Marie Desmarais.

At Barbara’s request, all services are private.
