Mother Mary D. Tillery

April 23, 1911 -- May 4, 2008

HOLLAND, Ohio -- Mary D. Tillery passed away May 4, 2008, in Holland, Ohio. Mary was born on April 23, 1911, in Wilson, N.C., daughter of the late Josh and Hattie Dail. At the age of 15, she was baptized at St. Rose Church of Christ on June 10, 1926.

She and her family moved from Wilson to Williamston, N.C., in 1940. They lived and raised a family until 1970 when her husband, Ashley, retired. They then returned to Wilson County and St. Rose Church.

While living in Williamston, Mary was a devoted member of Green's Memorial Church of Christ. She served on various auxillaries, usher board, Mother's Board, and several missions, etc.

Mary worked at the former Olin Mathieson Chemical Company of Williamston, receiving a service award in 1958. She also worked as a cook at the old Martin General Hospital. She was a loyal and devoted member of the Martin County Extension Homemakers Club. The club did a "This is Your Life" program for her on May 13, 1973, at the old Robersonville High School. Mary took the Home Furnishings and Decorations classes and many other classes sponsored by the Martin County Extension Homemakers.

She was very active in the Martin County School System, particularly, E.J. Hayes.

As mentioned, Mary and her family moved back to Wilson County in 1970 and returned to St. Rose Church. She was the president of the E.F. Johnson Bible Study Class, the Mother's Board, served on various missions and was a member of the Goldsboro-Raleigh District Assembly (Church of Christ).

Mary was president of the Laurel Legions Senior Citizens Group in Wilson and organized many trips for the group. She spearheaded a cheerleading group for the Senior Games.

Mother Tillery is survived by four daughters, Bettey Francis of Diamond Bar, Calif., Geraldine Miller of Holland, Ohio, Cornelia Tillery of Williamston, and Priscilla (Johnnie) Rascoe of Windsor; two sons, Ashley Tillery of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Ernest Tillery of Wilson; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ashley; daughter, Mary Elizabeth; son, Harry; and granddaughter, Kenya.

We are grateful to Dr. Beverly Lewis for her kind attention over the years, and Rosa Shepherd, a good friend and helper.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Rose Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), 605 S. Douglas St., Wilson. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1-2 p.m. at the church. They will assemble at 7200 Bridgesville Road, Macclesfield, at 12 noon in preparation for the funeral procession. Arrangements have been entrusted to Carrons Funeral Home, 325 E. Nash St., Wilson. Celia Hart Wade

Feb. 6, 1919 -- May 6, 2008

SNOW HILL -- Mrs. Celia Hart Wade, 89, passed away Tuesday evening, May 6, 2008, at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. A native of Greene County, she was born Feb. 6, 1919, the daughter of Raymond E. and Mary Gay Hart. Following graduation from the Snow Hill High School, she married her late husband, William Wayne Wade, and they resided in the Stantonsburg Community for many years; following retirement, they returned to Snow Hill. Mrs. Wade was a member of Harrell's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where she had served as church clerk for 70 years and was also very active in the Ladies Auxiliary.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Harrell's Chapel FWB Church with the Rev. Alvin Keener officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Wade is survived by her children, Mary Wade Taylor of Goldsboro, Annie Wade Carter of Chesapeake, Va., Kay Wade Hudson of Raleigh, Camilla Wade Davis and Dwight S. Davis, both of Snow Hill; sisters, Valeria H. Smith of Snow Hill and Lucy H. Hill of Hookerton; brothers, Buren Hart of Snow Hill, Dewey Hart of Hookerton, and Wayne Hart of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 7-9 p.m. at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, and other times at the residence. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Harrell's Chapel Ladies Auxiliary, c/o Jennifer Harper, 100 Dixon Road, Snow Hill, NC 28580.

Walter Farmer Jr.

Walter Farmer Jr., 50, of 1404 Aycock St., died Wednesday. Arrangements are by Hamilton Funeral Chapel of Wilson.

 

Herman Perry

ELM CITY -- Herman Perry, 65, died Wednesday. Arrangements are by Shingleton Funeral Home.
