Wayne says NO

Wayne County voters overwhelmingly defeated a proposed quarter-cent sales tax increase Tuesday, with more than 80 percent of the voters casting a no ballot.

Overall, 18,669 people voted against the proposed 0.25 sales tax increase, and just 4,012 were in favor of it.

If the referendum had passed, the increase could have generated about $2.4 million to be spent on capital improvements for Wayne County such as an emergency radio communication system, schools, public library, health department and service for the aging.
