Two charged in Wilson stabbing




Wilson police have arrested two men they allege stabbed Roy Lee McArthur in the stomach on June 22.

According to a press release issued by Sgt. S.V. Stroud, officers responded to 700 Lane St. around 9:30 p.m. to a report of a man who had been stabbed.

When officers arrived they found McArthur suffering from a stab wound to his stomach. He was taken to Wilson Medical Center for treatment of his injury and is expected to fully recover.

No motive for the stabbing was released because the investigation is still ongoing.

As a result of their investigation, officers arrested Alton Pippiens Jr., 26, of 3705 Citation Court, Apt. A. He was arrested on June 25 and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was placed in the Wilson County Jail under a $10,000 bond. He posted bond and was released later that same day.

On June 29, Victor Lamont Melvin, 25, of 3712 Dianne Drive, Apt. B, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal's Violent Fugitive Task Force in Goldsboro. He was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He is currently being held in the Wilson County Jail under a $101,500 bond.

The men are scheduled to appear in court July 15.

Both suspects have lengthy arrest records.

Pippiens was arrested twice in 2008 for possession with intent to sell a Schedule II controlled substance. The cases were consolidated and he was sentenced to 36 months of probation. He currently has charges pending against him for two counts of failure to wear a seat belt, felonious maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or a place for the sale or delivery of a controlled substance, two counts of felonious trafficking cocaine, felonious possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, felonious possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Melvin's record is a little longer. He served time in prison for felonious selling of a Schedule II controlled substance, communicating threats, resisting a public officer, misdemeanor possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and driving while license revoked. All of these convictions were between 2004 and 2008 in Wilson County.

He received probation for felonious possession of a Schedule II controlled substance in 2003 in Wilson County.

He currently has charges pending in court for communicating threats, two counts of assault on a female, two counts of driving while license revoked, felonious possession of cocaine and felonious probation violation.

Wilson police are asking for the community's assistance in the investigation of this case. If you have any information regarding it, please contact the police department at 399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 243-2255. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
