Town Talk

SIMS

A Sims woman won $5,000 in an instant scratch-off lottery game, according to a media release from the N.C. Education Lottery.

Mary Snider on Monday claimed a ticket for the $130 Million Blockbuster game.

BAILEY

Members of the Bailey United Methodist Church will celebrate its 100th year during the church’s homecoming this weekend.

Brenda Honeycutt, chairwoman of the church’s centennial committee, said the celebration begins this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at a tent on the church grounds, where past pastors and interns will come back for a celebration and speeches.

The big event is on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., when the church will have an outdoor tent service followed by a meal.

Honeycutt said the outdoor tent service is meant to have an old-fashioned feel.

For more information, call the church at 252-235-4576.

LUCAMA

On Saturday, celebrate the Crossroads Fire Department’s 50th anniversary with a Car Show-n-Shine being held by the Twisted Stallions Car Club.

The event will be downtown on Main Street from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A show-n-shine is an event where you park your vehicle to show it off for looks, but it is not a car show with awards. The event is for all cars, trucks, and bikes.

“Come out and support the local volunteer fire department,” said Bert Lamm of the Twisted Stallions.

SPRING HOPE

A child was hit by a vehicle during the town’s 37th annual National Spring Hope Pumpkin Festival last weekend, said town police chief Tim Denton.

Four-year-old Joseph Woodard of Winston-Salem was injured after he ran in front of a 2001 Isuzu on South Pine Street, near where the carnival was set up for the festival, Denton said.

Denton said the child was taken by Nash County EMS to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. He was not seriously injured.

The driver of the car, Joseph Woodard of Rocky Mount, was not charged, Denton said, since the child ran out in front of the car.

The accident occurred about 5 p.m. on Saturday.
