Shivers, a Stantonsburg native and writer-in-residence at Augusta State University in Georgia, is the author of award-winning novels "Here to Get My Baby Out of Jail" and "A Whistling Woman." "Here to Get My Baby Out of Jail" was adapted to the big screen as the movie "Summer Heat," which was filmed in eastern North Carolina. The event will be held June 18 at 7 p.m. at the Greene County Museum, 107 NW Third St, Snow Hill. For more information, call 747-1999. EDGECOMBE COUNTY Edgecombe County has taken its first steps toward creating a wireless broadband Internet network by commissioning a feasibility study, according to a media release from ONUG Communications. The county and ONUG Communications announced earlier this month that the feasibility study is being carried out to help bring wireless broadband service to underserved rural areas. The county received support from the Golden LEAF Foundation's Community Assistance Initiative for this project. County officials say the study will complement the support they county received earlier to purchase laptops for high school students as part of a pilot program for the N.C. Learning Technology Initiative. County officials also say they are working on providing affordable access to online courses at Edgecombe Community College. NASH COUNTY The Nash County Sheriff's Office will be hold an auction on confiscated personal property Wednesday and Friday at the sheriff's office in Nashville. Among the items the public can bid on are a 19-foot long Stingray Boat, trailer included; a 1991 white two-door Nissan; a 1990 gray four-door Honda; and a 1999 tan four-door Nissan Maxima.
