Town Talk for Tuesday, June 23, 2009

SHARPSBURG

The town will be keeping its current administrator after all.

Sharpsburg commissioners voted at their regular meeting last week to renew Town Administrator Robert Masters' contract. Commissioners had voted earlier not to renew his contract, which was set to end June 30.

Masters, who had held contracts for both town administrator and zoning officer, said the two positions have been combined into one contract. The town was able to save $8,000 by combining positions. Masters will now be paid $75,000 per year.

Masters said he was pleased with the final outcome.

"I have a lot of unfinished work, and this now gives me a chance to finish some of these projects that we haven't completed."

Also during the meeting, commissioners voted to hire Wilson attorney Brian Pridgen at the rate of $186 per hour. Town attorney David Orcutt stepped down from the board earlier due to personal reasons.

NASH COUNTY

The food and nutrition services at Nash Health Care were recently honored for promoting healthier dining.

The hospital received the Red Apple Award from N.C. Prevention Partners, making it one of 25 hospitals in the state to receive the honor.

Nash Health Care received the award earlier this month.

KENLY

The town will be hosting a community watch meeting Tuesday, June 30, at the town hall.

Dale Moore, a member of the Kenly Area Chamber of Commerce and owner of Patrick's, said the meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the town hall on West Second Street.

Moore said the community watch meetings are being organized by a committee from the chamber.

The meetings are held on the last Tuesday of the month.
