KENLY

The Kenly Volunteer Fire Department recently spent an approximately $6,900 grant it received through the N.C. Department of Insurance to help purchase new equipment for the department, according to Kenly Fire Chief Paul Whitehurst.

The grant, which the department matched with local funds, allowed the fire department to purchase a heavy rescue cutter, a confined space cutter and a two-car rescue jack set. Whitehurst said the equipment will allow for easier rescue of individuals trapped in automobiles.

The total cost of the equipment came to about $14,000, he said.
