A Johnston County advocate for adolescents who are either pregnant or parents recently received an award for her work.

Ann Arant, supervisor for the Johnston County Adolescent Parenting Program, won the June Stallings Award at the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program of N.C.'s annual conference in Greensboro last week. The award is given annually for outstanding work in the field.

Lt. Scott Parker, a narcotics division commander in the sheriff's office, was selected to serve on the board by N.C. Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton.

"Lt. Parker understands the needs of our rural communities and has been a leader in his community," Dalton said in the media release.

Parker has served with several boards and associations, including the N.C. Narcotics Enforcement Officer's Association, the North Carolina Justice Academy Alumni and the Nash Community College Foundation Board.
