Robbery suspect being looked at for other break-ins

Wilson police have arrested a 30-year old man that they say broke into an apartment on Monday just before lunch while the occupant was home.

According to a press release issued by Detective C. C. Tant, Jody Dalton Bass, 30, of 3701 Ashbrook Drive, Apt. 1112, was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary, three counts of financial card theft, one count of financial card fraud, one count of misdemeanor larceny, and one count of misdemeanor possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Wilson County Jail under a $26,000 bond and was still in custody as of Thursday afternoon.

The press release said the victim told officers that someone forced their way into his apartment while he was sleeping and stole his wallet and other items that totalled approximately $815.

Later that same day, investigators arrested Bass. Police say he is also under investigation regarding several car break-ins as well.

Bass' arrest record reveals that he has been in trouble with the law since 1998 in Wilson and Pitt Counties.

He has served prison time for four counts of felonious breaking and entering motor vehicles, felony breaking and entering, three counts of felonious larceny and misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury. He received probation for felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and attempted felonious selling of a Schedule I controlled substance.

Since the investigation into Bass' activities is ongoing, police are urging anyone that has any information regarding this case or any other case to call the Wilson Police Department at 399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 243-2255. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. In order to qualify for any potential reward money, callers will have to provide their contact information.

Glad this one got more than an insignificant punishment, hope investigators can link him to more crimes and keep in off the streets...maybe all these people arrested in today’s paper would make great candidates for a movement to reopen Alcatraz.
