Remembering those who served

Police officers from across the country, including three from North Carolina began riding their bicycles earlier this week from Charleston, S.C. on their way to Washington, D.C. to the National Law Enforcement Memorial. The group chose Wilson as one of the stops along their journey to hold a small memorial service. During the service, names of officers from the Wilson Police Dept., the Wilson County Sheriff's Office, Sharpsburg Police Dept. and the Stantonsburg Police Dept. that have lost their lives in the line of duty were recognized. The group is making the journey in an effort to raise awareness for officers that have been killed in the line of duty, to raise money for the upkeep of the memorial and to help families of fallen officers.
