Perdue opens citizen suggestion box online

Governor-elect Bev Perdue announced Wednesday that North Carolina citizens can now provide suggestions and feedback to her online as she plans her administration.

Her inauguration is scheduled for Jan. 10.

"During this transition period I believe it's important for citizens to be engaged in their government and to have input - this is a way for them to do that," said Perdue.

The "suggestion box" is at Perdue's Web site. Go to www.bevperdue.com/suggestionbox.

State GOP chair salutes candidates

The chair of the state Republican Party offered praise to both presidential candidates following last week's election.

Chairman Linda Daves congratulated U.S. Sen. John McCain on "a good and honorable campaign.

"Although John McCain may not be president, he is truly a statesman in the best sense of the word and a hero to the American people," she said.

She also said that at "this historic moment in the great American story, we must all acknowledge the accomplishment of Barack Obama. From the time of our first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, to the election of Barack Obama to the highest office in the nation, the face of our country has truly changed. That this story is even possible is a testament to the fact that we live in the greatest country in the world."
