Tuesday, March 24, 2009 10:06 AM Middlesex woman wins top prize in Cash 5 Menefee-Dunn plans to save her winnings for retirement By Caroline Dolman | Times Apprentice RALEIGH - Barbara Menefee-Dunn of Middlesex stopped at a Raleigh grocery store last Thursday and got more than she expected when the "Carolina Cash 5" ticket she had bought on the way out of the store turned out to be the top prize winner. Menefee-Dunn told lottery officials that she was lying in bed the next morning when she saw the winning numbers scroll across her television screen, according to a press release from the North Carolina Education Lottery. She said she always picks her own numbers, consisting of the her birth date, her husband's and one other number, and that she immediately recognized the numbers. Despite her certainty of the numbers that she had picked, Menefee-Dunn said she couldn't believe what she saw, so she called the lottery's automated hotline to double-check the numbers. She then had her husband call the same phone number to get the numbers again. She said she plans to save her winnings for retirement. |
