Wednesday, June 25, 2008 10:57 AM Man killed in crash near Snow Hill By Eddie Fitzgerald | Times Staff Writer GREENE COUNTY -- A 74-year-old Ayden-Grifton man was killed Friday after his pickup truck ran off the road near Snow Hill and struck two trees. James Elton Johnson died in Pitt County Memorial Hospital after the accident. According to N.C. Highway Patrol reports, Johnson was traveling northeast on N.C. 903 at about 11:23 a.m. when his 1998 Nissan pickup truck ran off the right side of the roadway and collided with a ditch. The vehicle continued traveling and collided with a tree and almost rolled over before striking a second tree and coming to a rest. Johnson was traveling at the 55 mph speed limit when the accident occurred about 4.5 miles northeast of Snow Hill, highway patrol reports show. After the accident occurred Johnson was transported by emergency medical service personnel to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:35 p.m., reports show. |
