Last-minute idea: Tour stately homes today on Woodard Circle By Heather Wilkerson | Staff Writer I know this is short notice, but I just found out about a mini homes tour that will take place this afternoon at three of the houses on Woodard Circle. That's off Goldsboro Street before the train tracks. So, if you've ever waited for the train, or driven or walked by, and wondered what those nice, big, old houses looked like inside, here's your chance. It will not take much of your time. Organizers have allotted only 45 minutes actually. They'll be talking fast. Anyone interested should meet in the parking lot of Green Engineering, 303 E. Goldsboro St., at 5:30 p.m.. You'll walk as a group to the David Woodard House, which is being used as offices for Legal Aid, at 409 Goldsboro St. By 5:45, you'll be exploring the Cora and Sallie Farmer House at 304 Goldsboro St., and at 6, you will have a chance to view the restoration in progress at the George Stanton House at 400 Goldsboro St. Lu-Ann Monson, the city's historic preservation planner, is the tour guide. It was my first time on the site and it's pretty neat! One other thing worth mentioning is a local fund-raising effort for the March of Dimes. Citifinancial, with two locations in Wilson, has been raising money since March for the organization, which is dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature births and infant mortality. The branch inside Wilson Mall sells hot dogs and candy daily as way to raise money. That's one more food or snack option for you while you're shopping! Raffle tickets are being sold for $2. Various gifts and gift cards from local businesses are up for grabs. The drawing is May 16. Citifinancial will continue to take donations through May 15. Businesses can still donate items for the raffle too. All donations are tax-deductible and 100 percent of all money raised goes to the March of Dimes. Citifinancial's other Wilson office, on Forest Hills Road next to Wilson Glass and Mirror, had a yard sale a couple of weeks ago to help with fund-raising efforts. That office is still taking donations, as well.
