Ellis receives scholarship




Tiffany S. Ellis of Wilson, a graduate of Beddingfield High School, is the recipient of the John J. Harper Scholarship at Barton College.

The renewable scholarship will cover $3,000 of tuition for the freshman year.

Ellis is the daughter of Lisa and James Ellis of Wilson. She will enter Barton this fall and plans to major in middle school education.

The John J. Harper Scholarship is awarded to entering freshmen who are well prepared to meet the challenges of a liberal arts education. Criteria for this award includes a minimum 2.5 grade point average, a minimum SAT score of 850 or a minimum ACT score of 17. Recipients must also rank within the top 65 percent of their high school classes. A 2.5 GPA must be maintained to retain the scholarship four years. In addition to the required minimum GPA, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress and be enrolled continuously on a full-time basis.
