Friday, July 03, 2009 5:16 PM Eight cases of H1N1 in Wilson County By Janet Conner-Knox | Times Staff Writer The numbers of Wilson County residents with swine flu or H1N1 continue to climb. As of Thursday, there are eight confirmed cases in Wilson, but no pending cases and no deaths. Tammra Morrison, Wilson County Health Department communicable disease coordinator, said none of the eight cases are related. "It's here, we know it's here," Morrison said. "That is all the more reason to practice good hygiene." Morrison said people should know that when they open door knobs or grab the shopping cart it could put them in contact with swine flu. She said the virus can live from two to eight hours on a surface. "Don't touch your eyes, nose or mouth because that's the best way for the virus to make entry," Morrison said. Morrison said they are still emphasizing the same things to prevent getting sick such as: * Washing hands thoroughly and often * Using alcohol hand sanitizers when soap and water can't be used
* In the absence of a tissue, sneeze and cough in the inside of your elbow. If you are sick, Morrison said go see your doctor and stay away from others. Taking a baby to the doctor can be real important, Morrison said, because it can be hard to distinguish if a baby has H1N1 or an ear infection because some of the symptoms are similar. State health officials are keeping a close eye on the virus and how it is spreading. All confirmations of H1N1 are done at the state level, but are sent from the local health departments. Morrison said those people who show symptoms and have chronic health problems like asthma are watched carefully. "We are also giving every precaution to pregnant women," Morrison said. Morrison warns not to ignore the symptoms if you feel sick, but go to the doctor and know for sure if you have the virus or not. janet@wilsontimes.com | 265-7847 |

Yes, well, coughing still produces germs, and it is still disgusting to cough on someone. Learn some manners and cover your mouth.

So you see, I told yall, first one then two then three then it's all history. To you nursie, sounds like you maybe need to think about changing your line of work. I worked in the medical field for 20 something years and I have had all kinds of body fluids thrown my way, that's part of the job, as you should know. At least the coughing she did on you probably had no smell---so consider yourself lucky.

I am appalled at the lack of hygiene people practice in Wilson. I had to tell a patient several times to please stop coughing in my face. I gave the patient tissues to use, but she continued to be a gross pig!!! I am only surprised the the number of people with H1N1 is not higher. I would wonder if they were raised in a barn, but I already have my answer.
