Monday, May 04, 2009 10:38 AM Child struck by car is OK Man who assaulted driver could be charged By Antonio Velarde | Times Staff Writer SHARPSBURG -- A child injured when a car ran him over in an apartment complex parking lot Saturday is out of the hospital and back with his family. Sharpsburg Police are still investigating to determine if two others involved in the incident will face charges. At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to Pine Grove Apartments because of a car accident involving a toddler. When they arrived, officers found a large crowd on scene, said Sharpsburg Police Chief Craig Bissette. Upon investigating, officers learned from Moses Blount, 26, that he had backed his four-door sedan from a parking space when he heard several people begin shouting at him and running toward his car. Blount told police that upon exiting the car, he found out that he had accidentally run over a 1-year-old child. He told police that he was then assaulted by a resident of the apartment complex. The child's name was withheld by Sharpsburg police, and information on the assaulter has not yet been confirmed, Bissette said. The child was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital, where he received five stitches to his left ear, along with treatment for some scrapes and bruises. Charges have not been filed against Blount pending consultation with the area District Attorney's Office, though Bissette said charges would be unlikely. He did say charges would likely be forthcoming against the man who assaulted Blount. The N.C. Highway Patrol responded, along with the Wilson County Sheriff's Office and the Sharpsburg Fire Department. Bissette said many details about the case were blurry because of the chaotic nature of the scene, and that details would be forthcoming. "We're just trying to let the emotions settle down a little bit," Bissette said. avelarde@wilsontimes.com | 265-7868 |

Accidents happen, but thank goodness this little boy is ok. I feel sorry for this little one and the man that was driving. I know it was said already but who was watching this little one and why we're the frustrations directed at that person?

I have just noticed over the past several months that on all the articles invloving accidents such as this one that EMS responds to the scene and never gets mentioned even though they play a very vital role!
