Wednesday, July 01, 2009 8:51 AM Wilson woman killed in wreck in Carteret County By Gina Childress | Times Staff Writer A Wilson woman was killed in a wreck Sunday while traveling on N.C. 58 in Carteret County. According to the Jacksonville Daily News, Barbara Lynn Mazza, 62, of Waterford Drive was killed when the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban she and her husband, Charles Mazza, 66, were driving was struck by a 1995 Acura. The Acura was driven by 18-year-old William Troy Cooper of Hadnot Drive in Swansboro. According to the news report, Charles Mazza and Cooper were both injured in the accident and transported by helicopter to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Trooper D.L. Clifton of the North Carolina Highway Patrol said that Cooper was listed in critical condition and that Charles Mazza was also still hospitalized. According to Clifton, Cooper was driving north on N.C. 58 when he crossed over the center line and collided with the Mazzas' vehicle. He said the estimated speed of impact was 65 mph. The speed limit in the area is 55 mph. The Jacksonville Daily News reported that no charges have been filed in the accident because the state is awaiting blood test results on Cooper. The paper also reported that unprescribed Xanax and marijuana were found in Cooper's possession. Barbara Mazza's funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the St. James Episcopal Church in Bradley Beach, NJ. gina@wilsontimes.com | 265-7821 |

I am a Wilsonian and I grieve and pray that God will heal you through the tough times ahead but just remember that all the joyful times you shared and the memories that you had because of her.

Our prayers are with Barbaras family, especially her daughter and 4 grandchildren who live here in Wilson.
