Coastline in Wilson Wednesday night
By Matt Shaw | Times Staff Writer
Jim Quick, a much-honored songwriter and showman, brings the award-winning Coastline band to Wilson Wednesday for Downtown Alive.
The Wilmington-based group describes its sound as "an eclectic blend of soul, blues and rock ... from hard-driving Carolina back beats, to Georgia Southern rock, from Cajun-inspired grooves, to Texas and Delta blues," according to its Web site.
The group features Quick, who has been named "Entertainer of the Year" seven times by the Carolina Beach Music Awards, including the past two years.
Quick also won songwriting Cammys for the singles "Turn Me Over" in 2007 and "Mama's Drinking Liquor Again" in 2008.
Other band members are guitarist Casey Meyer, bass player Albert Rogers on bass and Glen Tippett, a saxophonist and keyboardist.
Touring extensively, Coastline has been named top group five times by the Carolina Beach Music Association. Its albums, "Sweet and Ripe" in 2005 and "Sneakin' Out Back" in 2007, also won Cammys.
People attending the concert may take lawn chairs or blankets, but they should not take coolers or pets. Refreshments will be for sale, including soft drinks, hot dogs, pizza, chicken sandwiches, snow cones and ice cream. Adults with IDs can buy beer, margaritas and sangria.
