Band pays tribute to Blues Brothers
Hear them downtown Wednesday

"Coming to ya, on a dusty road. Good lovin', I've got a truckload."

Anyone who fondly remembers those lines should plan to be in downtown Wilson Wednesday to see the Alabama Blues Brothers.

This Downtown Alive concert will distinctly different, said Bowie Gray, one of the organizers.

"Those guys don't even know any beach music," Gray said. "They are a high-energy show band. They go like gangbusters all night long."

Jamey and Justin Crisler, actual brothers from Town Creek, Ala., formed the tribute band in 1998 to the Blues Brothers, characters made famous by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd on "Saturday Night Live" and in a 1980 movie.

They have now performed to more than 2,000 audiences and tour extensively throughout the Southeast. They will perform in Wilson as part of a four-day swing that will also take them to Charlotte; Augusta, Ga.; and Cherokee, Ala.

The brothers are accompanied by a seven-piece band, including horn section. Show staples include many soul, rock and rhythm and blues numbers, including "Soul Man," "Hey, Bartender," "Give Me Some Lovin'" and "Rawhide."

A video of the band can be seen at its website, www.thealabamabluesbrothers.com.

People attending the concert may take lawn chairs or blankets, but they should not bring coolers or pets. Refreshments will be for sale, including soft drinks, hot dogs, pizza, chicken sandwiches, snow cones and ice cream. Adults with IDs can buy beer, margaritas and sangria.

Downtown Alive
Downtown Alive will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at the Renfrow lot on South Tarboro Street, between Womble Hardware and Newcomb Lighting. The Alabama Blues Brothers will perform from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Down Alive is supported completely by contributions. Wilson Hardware is sponsoring this show.

Concerts are scheduled every other Wednesday through Oct. 7. The next Downtown Alive will be the Donald Thompson Band July 1.
