'Personals' plays in Raleigh

RALEIGH -Before Internet dating services became the craze, there was a time when a few well-placed words in the daily paper could lead you directly to Mr. Right or Mr. Oh So Wrong. Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy takes us back to that era in the award winning musical revue, "Personals."

From the creators of the hit TV show "Friends" (David Crane, Seth Friedman and Marta Kauffman), with music by several popular writers including Stephen Schwartz and Alan Menken ("Wicked," Disney's "Enchanted," "Beauty and the Beast"), William K. Dreskin, Joel Phillip Friedman, Seth Friedman and Michael Skloff, "Personals" is a collection of songs about people who place lonely hearts ads: lonely people looking for that certain someone. In other words: Personals is about Most of Us, about the unending search for love in the Post Me Decade.

The duo leading the way includes choreographer Tito Hernandez who directs the show along side musical director Nancy Whelan.

The cast includes Katie Lynch, Yolanda Rabun, Heather Patterson King, Jason Sharp, Noah Putterman and Michael Jones. All six actors mesh beautifully with Whelan's perfect ensemble of musicians who include Whelan, Cathy Hamner, Larry Suvak, Drew Lile and Leslie Webster.

Personals takes the Kennedy stage through Aug. 17. All performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m.

Tickets are now on sale now through Ticketmaster by calling 919-834-4000 or online at ticketmaster.com or by visiting the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts Box Office on Wilmington Street in Raleigh.
