Promila Sen finds inspiration in nature for her show at the Wilson Arts Center.
...

Promila Sen exhibit opens this evening

Promila Sen will be the featured artist in the Wilson Arts Center's Lowe Gallery through June 5. The exhibition opens this evening, concurrently with an exhibit of Frank Dunn's art. The exhibits open with a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Boykin Gallery. The reception is free and open to the public.

Sen's exhibit consists of watercolors and photographs, with nature's recurrent theme: winter trees, spring blossoms, fruit, water, clouds, a night sky.

"I think of my work as a process," Sen said. "I like dynamic composition, rich color harmonies and contrasts, expressive line and pattern, texture.

"Inspiring me are traditions of early European art, Impressionism, abstract art and Eastern symbolism," she said. "I enjoy exploring the infinite complexity, vitality and mystery of the natural world."

Sen holds a master's degree in art history, South Asia studies, from the University of Pennsylvania. As a UNESCO scholar, she received the Certificat in French Language and Civilization from the University of Aix-en-Provence, France. She also graduated with honors from the University of Bombay.

She has lectured in art history at Barton College and Meredith College and has taught children's art for the Arts Council of Wilson and watercolor and drawing at Wilson Community College.

Sen has exhibited in juried, one-person and group shows, including those at N.C. Wesleyan College, the Wilson Active Artists Association Biennial, Arts Council of Wilson and Artspace in Raleigh. Sen's work has won many awards, and she has contributed extensively to corporate and private collections.

Along with Sen's work, Greenfield School will be showcasing artwork in the Cooke Gallery.
